In America in the beginning, the performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the prodigy child category. But for a person from Irish heritage surrounded by gifted parents and family members, these were very natural traits. Maureen was born in this cosy sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. Her family was the family of her parents. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share of "The Shamrock Rovers" an eminent Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons was second from a household of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this gorgeous group. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was young and became very adept at it. Her talent for performing was a perfect complement to her passion for sports. She was awarded nearly every Feis Award for Theatre and Drama the country could give. When she was in her 14th year she joined at the Abbey Theater to follow her aspirations and pursue studies in the classical theater and operatic singing.
